Riboflavin is evaluated and monitored by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) along with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) who set standards on its purity, moisture, solubility, and contamination free status of heavy metals and microbial pathogens. They impose a minimum requirement of over 98% for riboflavin alongside other factors. Additional stipulations for the pharmaceutical industry involve dissolution rate and stability. As a food-grade riboflavin, those standards must also be met in terms of usage as a food additive while safeguarding the consumers.
